Ver Mulm Named Executive Director of the Friends of Missouri National Recreational River (FOMNRR)
The Friends of the Missouri National Recreational River (FOMNRR) has hired Caroline Ver Mulm as its Executive Director. FOMNRR, in collaboration with the National Park Service, works to promote and enhance the Missouri National Recreational River (MNRR) headquartered in Yankton. Ver Mulm begins her role January 5.
The MNRR encompasses 98 miles, in two reaches, of the Missouri River between South Dakota and Nebraska. Both sections are very scenic and provide a wide variety of year-round recreational opportunities such as boating, kayaking, canoeing, hunting, fishing, camping and hiking.
“I’m thrilled that Caroline is coming on as our Executive Director” said Paul Lepisto, FOMNRR’s Interim Chair. “Caroline’s experience in community partnerships and knowledge of MNRR activities and events from her previous role as the MNRR’s Community Volunteer Ambassador will be a tremendous asset to our organization.” Lepisto added.

Caroline Ver Mulm, newly hired Executive Director of FOMNRR
Ver Mulm has a Bachelor’s degree in Earth Science from the University of Memphis. She has strong communication skills, is experienced in creating social media content and in developing project proposals and grant applications.
Ver Mulm said, “Some of my top priorities as Executive Director will be to strengthen our existing relationships with park partners and the NPS staff, and to integrate FOMNRR’s long-term goals with the work we do to support the needs of the park.”
Ver Mulm stated the Executive Director position allows her to continue to live in a community she loves, and lets her build on her previous work and maintain momentum in community engagement. Her goal is to make FOMNRR a productive asset to the park and the surrounding communities by increasing membership and recruiting board members.
FOMNRR applied for, and received, a National Park Foundation Capacity Building Grant this summer. That grant will fund this position for a year. FOMNRR deeply appreciates the work of Yankton Thrive as an important partner in this hiring process.
The mission of the Friends of the Missouri National Recreational River is to build awareness, enhance and advocate for the scenic, recreational, fish and wildlife, ecological, geological, cultural and historical values and economic and recreational opportunities of the Missouri River, a component of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System.
