Homestead Day
Hosted in June each year by our partners at South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks, Homestead Day is a family-focused event designed to introduce participants to a wide variety of outdoor activities while exploring how early settlers lived. Activities include hands-on crafts, live music, butter making, homemade ice cream, and old-time games for the whole family. The event is free, but a South Dakota Park Entrance License is required.
A highlight of Homestead Day is a bird of prey demonstration, allowing attendees to learn about hawks, owls, and falcons native to the Great Plains. Friends of the MNRR raises funds to cover the raptor team’s presentation, travel, and associated expenses.
